West Hoathly Scouts Homepage

Welcome
The West Hoathly Scout Group provides excitement, fun and adventure for young people in:
- West Hoathly
- Sharpthorne
- Horsted Keynes
We are part of the East Grinstead District Scouts and West Sussex Scouts and currently have 40 active Scouts with an even mix of ages and genders. We welcome young people of all abilities and backgrounds.
What we do
The group currently provides:
- Beavers for 6-8 years, 4.45pm-6pm, Monday evenings
- Cubs for 8-10½ years, 6pm-7.30pm Wednesday evenings
- Scouts for 10½ – 14 years, 7pm-8.30pm Thursday evenings
Explorer Scouts are supported through the Forest Row Scout group.
Unless otherwise advised, most sections meet every week at the West Hoathly Scout Hut at Hill Top Road, West Hoathly, East Grinstead RH19 4QJ.
We aim to give young people Skills for Life preparing them for a great future, delivered through a fun and inspiring programme of activities. We learn by doing! We implement the Youth Shaped Scouting strategy and ensure that the young people have a say in what they do. Some of the activities we have run recently include:
- Trebuchets
- Camp cooking
- Night hiking
- Geo-caching
We communicate with adults using several methods:
- Adults receive weekly emails from leaders detailing the upcoming session.
- Parents receive access to Online Scout Manager (OSM) for managing personal details and signing-up to events.
- This website to provide a reference point for the group activities.
- Soon we will be implementing a private facebook group as well as photo sharing.
West Hoathly Scouts operates according to the Scouts personal data protection policy and does not share any personal data with any person or organization outside the Scouts movement without explicit permission from adults and for clear reasons. We delete all data when it is no longer needed. Currently all personal data is stored on OSM or Compass. We encourage leaders to take photos of events. If you are not happy for these to be shared within the group then please make sure that this is indicated in OSM. If you would like to know more please contact a leader or the executive.
At all times we ensure that the programme is run in a safe way and this includes carrying out risk assessments for all activities. We expect all young people and adults to contribute to managing and improving safety within the group. Many of the activities which we deliver in the programme include explaining to young people how to enjoy exciting activities safely. If you would like to know more, please contact a leader or the executive.
Joining In
Like all Scout Groups we rely on volunteers to run Scouts and we always need more. Without adult volunteers we would be unable to deliver a full and exciting programme, so please consider signing-up. We encourage all parents and carers to contribute to the Scouting community in whatever way they can, even if it is being a parent helper at a session.
If you have a young person who would like to join the West Hoathly Scout Group please visit the Scouts joining page here, or email want2join@egscouts.org.uk.
